Washington County Hazardous Weather Outlook

…WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO
5 PM MST FRIDAY FOR THE NORTH-CENTRAL COLORADO MOUNTAINS…
…WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM MST FRIDAY EVENING TO
EARLY SUNDAY MORNING FOR THE NORTH-CENTRAL COLORADO MOUNTAINS…

This hazardous weather outlook is for northeast and north central
Colorado.

.DAY ONE…Today and Tonight

A moist Pacific storm system moving towards Colorado today will
begin producing snow in the mountains by late this afternoon.
Snowfall is then expected to become moderate at times tonight,
with significant accumulations by Friday morning. Winds will also
increase overnight, producing areas of blowing and drifting snow
at times. A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect for the
north-central Colorado mountains tonight through Friday with snow
accumulations of 6 to 12 inches possible by Friday morning. Travel
in the mountains will be adversely impacted while the storm
continues.

Weather on the plains will remain dry and mild as the strong
westerly winds aloft produce downslope drying to the east of the
mountains.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Friday through Wednesday

Moderate to heavy snowfall will be ongoing in the mountains
Friday morning along with strong winds which will result in
hazardous travel conditions. Snow rates will decrease in the
mountains Friday afternoon as the initial system responsible for
bringing the snow departs Colorado. Despite the lull in snow,
travel conditions may not improve greatly because of the strong
winds and blowing snow. Another system will increase snow rates
in the mountains Friday night through Saturday night with travel
continuing to be hazardous. A third system will move through
Colorado during the day on Sunday lasting through Sunday night.
This system will bring moderate snow mainly to the central and
southern mountains of Colorado. A high pressure system will put an
end to the snow in the mountains on Monday and will keep
conditions dry through Wednesday. Significant snow accumulations
are likely in the high country as the snow stacks up over a three
day period.

The plains will have a slight chance of snow from Friday night
through Saturday and then an increased chance of snow Saturday night
and Sunday with a frontal passage. At this time the snowfall looks
light, though there is a bit of uncertainty.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT…

Spotter activation will not be needed today or tonight.
