…NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST…
A few thunderstorms may occur later tonight over the Pacific
Northwest region, but severe weather is not expected.
Strong mid-level height falls are forecast tonight across the
Pacific Northwest in advance of a short-wave trough that should
approach the coast by sunrise. Warm advection is currently driving
much of the precipitation across this region but buoyancy is quite
weak and not supportive of thunderstorms. 00z sounding from UIL
exhibits only shallow elevated instability between 700-500mb.
However, lapse rates should steepen markedly later tonight and
near-surface based parcels should become buoyant enough for deep
convection capable of penetrating levels necessary for lightning.
For these reasons will maintain thunder probs.
