…NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST…
Severe thunderstorms are not expected the remainder of tonight.
A stationary front situated from central FL into the northern Gulf
is forecast to begin a slow northward movement later tonight. With
exception of the FL Peninsula, the moist warm sector should remain
offshore. Southerly winds just above the stable surface layer will
undergo a gradual increase in a broad corridor downstream of a
progressive shortwave trough. The resulting isentropic ascent and
weak destabilization in cool sector will promote scattered showers
and areas of elevated thunderstorms gradually developing northward
the remainder of tonight.
Steep lapse rates with cold air aloft and vorticity maxima north of
a strong upper jet core is supporting weak instability and isolated
thunderstorms within a more general area of showers. Greatest
potential for a few thunderstorms tonight should remain along and
just inland of the WA and OR coasts where the influence of the
marine layer is resulting in slightly greater instability.
