Day 1 Severe Weather Outlook

Valid 041200Z – 051200Z

…NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST…

…SUMMARY…
The risk for severe weather will be minimal across the CONUS today.

…Synopsis…
A mid-level low west of the California coast will accelerate
eastward within the subtropical jet stream and move ashore by the
afternoon. With time, this shortwave will lose amplitude as it moves
into the Four Corners region late Wednesday night. Thunderstorm
activity is possible across portions of central and southern
California as forcing for ascent moves onshore and modestly cold
mid-level temperature foster increased instability. More isolated
lightning may occur as far east as central Arizona into southwest
Utah. Elsewhere across the country, lack of large-scale forcing for
ascent and cool/dry boundary layer conditions will keep probability
of thunderstorms very low.
