Day 1 Severe Weather Outlook

Valid 030100Z – 031200Z

A few lightning strikes may occur near the central California Coast
this evening. Severe thunderstorms are not expected.

A broad anticyclonic flow pattern is evident on water-vapor imagery
across much of the western two-thirds of the U.S. An upper-level low
is located in the eastern Pacific with southwest mid-level flow
along the coast of California. Warm air advection will be maintained
along the central California coast this evening as the upper-level
low moves slowly southward. Large-scale ascent along the eastern
side of the system along with lift associated with a low-level jet
may be sufficient for a few lightning strikes along the central
California coast over the next hour or two. No severe thunderstorms
are expected across the CONUS tonight.
