Day 1 Severe Weather Outlook

Valid 020100Z – 021200Z

…THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM NORTHEAST
COLORADO INTO NORTHWEST KANSAS…

…SUMMARY…
Severe thunderstorms remain possible mainly over eastern Colorado
into northwest Kansas, with hail and gusty winds. Isolated severe
storms may extend into east-central Kansas and northeast Oklahoma
through tonight.

…Central High Plains…
Storms over eastern CO continue to move slowly east/southeast, with
sporadic hail cores and several outflow boundaries producing
near-severe wind gusts. Meanwhile, isolated cells were ongoing over
southwest KS, where temperatures exceeded 100 F. The 00Z DDC
sounding shows a deep mixed layer from the surface to 670 mb, with
little CIN. Although winds aloft are light, veering with height is
helping in terms of storm sustenance, with mixed-modes. Hail and
locally severe wind gusts will remain possible through the evening
with the ongoing activity as it moves into KS. While capping will
increase with time, a strengthening low-level jet may help sustain
storms as they continue east.

Elsewhere, additional activity may form tonight related to the
nocturnal warm advection over east-central KS, and perhaps extreme
northeast OK. Elevated marginal hail would be the main concern.
