A mid/upper-level trough will deepen along the West Coast today and
begin to move inland by the end of the period. Very cold midlevel
temperatures associated with the trough will result in steep lapse
rates up to 500 mb across much of the Pacific Northwest.
Consequently, isolated lightning flashes and even small hail may be
possible with the strongest updrafts. However, limited moisture and
instability will limit the overall severe weather threat.

Elsewhere across the CONUS, limited instability will preclude
thunderstorm development, despite moisture return across the
southern Plains during the overnight hours.
