Areas affected…portions of the CO Front Range and adjacent High
Plains
Concerning…Heavy snow
Valid 281117Z – 281415Z
SUMMARY…Heavy snowfall rates around 1 inch/hour are expected for a
1-2 hour period as the heaviest snowfall rates shift east/southeast
from near the Denver metro into the Colorado Springs-Limon corridor
this morning.
DISCUSSION…Radar mosaic shows a heavier snowfall band near the
Denver metro and Palmer Divide near the higher terrain. It appears
the heavier snowfall is associated with frontogenesis near 600mb as
the mid-level shortwave trough pivots across CO this morning. Model
guidance shows the strongest forcing for ascent shifting
east/southeastward over the next few hours away from the immediate
Denver vicinity and towards the Colorado Springs-Limon corridor.
Although moderate snow is expected, a 1-2 hour period of heavier
snow (near 1 inch/hour) is forecast from the I-25 corridor between
Denver and Colorado Springs east into the High Plains.
