Colorado Mesoscale Discussion

Corrected for Discussion

Areas affected…Southern and Central High Plains

Concerning…Heavy rainfall…Flash flooding possible

Valid 232212Z – 240412Z

Summary…Thunderstorms developing off a trough in the lee of the
Colorado Rockies will continue to shift east down the high plains
toward an outflow boundary from earlier activity over western
Kansas. Enhancement from the outflow boundary raises a flash flood
risk over eastern Colorado and western Kansas this evening.

Discussion…A warm and humid airmass between current activity in
the high plains of CO and NM and an outflow boundary from earlier
activity over west-central KS will promote heavy thunderstorms
into the evening hours. PWATs are 1.5 standard deviations above
normal and SBCAPE is sufficient around 3000 J/Kg. Flash flood
guidance is 1 to 2 inches per hour which is possible as the
activity continues to develop into the evening hours.
