This hazardous weather outlook is for extreme southwest Nebraska... northwest Kansas and east central Colorado. .DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT... Dangerous fire weather conditions are expected across portions of the area today, mainly west of Highway 83, where a Red Flag Warning is in effect. Southerly winds will strengthen this afternoon and persist overnight. Sustained winds ranging from 25 to 40 mph and gusts up to 55 mph are expected, strongest near the Kansas and Colorado border. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY... Southerly winds will rapidly shift to the west as a cold front sweeps eastward across the area late Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon. Strong west to northwest winds are expected in the wake of the front. The abrupt nature of the wind shift may catch motorists off guard. Significant reductions in visibility associated with blowing dust may accompany the frontal passage. Dangerous travel conditions are likely over much or all of the Tri-State area during the day on Saturday. This includes the Interstate 70 corridor in eastern Colorado and northwest Kansas. A few thunderstorms may develop along the cold front in northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska Saturday afternoon. A brief severe storm is possible. At this time, thunderstorm development, coverage and severe weather potential appear greatest over central and eastern portions of Kansas and Nebraska, generally east of Highway 283 and north of Highway 6. An intensifying low pressure system in Nebraska will bring a prolonged period of strong, possibly damaging, northwest winds to the region Saturday evening through the day on Sunday. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation is not anticipated at this time.
