This hazardous weather outlook is for extreme southwest Nebraska... northwest Kansas and east central Colorado. .DAY ONE...TODAY... A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect into this evening for all areas except Red Willow, Norton and Graham counties. Visibility down to less than a mile and with some areas below freezing, freezing fog may cause slick roadways. A significant winter storm is expected to begin impacting the area tonight. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for the entire area. Heavy snow will begin this evening, with the worst of the storm forecast to occur after midnight tonight through mid-day Wednesday. Widespread snow of greater than 6 inches is forecast, and totals above 10 inches are likely in Yuma County Colorado and across southwest Nebraska. In addition, there may be some freezing rain or freezing drizzle to begin this event, so there might be a glaze of ice on the roads before the snow begins. Any travel from this evening through tomorrow is not advised given the current forecast and anticipated impacts. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH TUESDAY... The winter storm will continue throughout the day Wednesday, coming to an end by around sunset for most locations. During the daylight hours, breezy north winds are forecast which may cause some blowing snow with reduced visibilities and snow drifts. Visibilities less than 1 mile will be frequent due to heavy snow and blowing snow, though it would not be surprising to see visibility less than one quarter mile throughout this storm. Again, travel is not advised during this winter storm, particularly during the day Wednesday. Light snow is forecast for Friday night and again on Sunday night. Current indications are that these will not be major systems so only minor impacts are expected. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation may be required.
