WASHINGTON COUNTY HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT SUNDAY FROM NOON THROUGH 8 PM MDT FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR MOST OF THE PLAINS OF NORTHEAST COLORADO, GENERALLY AROUND AND EAST OF I-25... This hazardous weather outlook is for northeast and north central Colorado. .DAY ONE...Today and Tonight Snow showers will increase across the northern mountains later this afternoon with a period of snow expected tonight. The heaviest snowfall will be north of the Interstate 70 corridor where 2 to 6 inches expected. In addition, strong westerly winds will also develop later tonight with gusts up to 65 mph over the high mountain passes and exposed east slopes. Across the plains, expect increasing southeast winds up to 40 mph this afternoon. Could see a few light rain showers towards evening over the urban corridor and locations towards the Wyoming border. There will be elevated fire conditons with the winds but humidity levels will be higher today. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday Sunday, expect warm, dry, and breezy conditions across the plains with near-critical afternoon minimum humidity of 15 to 20 percent coincident with peak gusts 30 to 50 mph. Winds will be strongest on the northern plains. Models seem to be trending gradually warmer and drier as well, and to stronger winds. We have issued a Fire Weather Watch for most of our plains, basically everything around and east of I-25, Sunday from noon to 8 pm. We excluded the southern foothills from the highlight only because land managers indicate that fuels are no longer critical in this area. Tuesday, we expect critical afternoon humidity of 10 to 15 percent with breezy winds gusting to around 30 mph in many areas, so another Fire Weather highlight currently seem very likely. Conditions don't look to be much better Wednesday and Thursday. There may be widespread showers in the high country and scattered showers for the plains late Friday, early Saturday. Precipitation looks fairly light and mostly confined to the mountains. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation will not be needed.
